It's all about the Experience
7 December 2011
Have you ever had someone tell you 'it's not about the getting there, it's all about the experience in the journey'? Life is full of those times when you really feel like you're stuck in a rut, a whirlpool spinning you round and round, you've not a single moment to stop and re-assess.
Many times when I'm caught in my whirlpool and have reached a destination or work achievement - metaphorically speaking that is, I've found that sense of reward in my success but looking back it's not so much about the 'getting there' as it is about the experience I gained in the journey. The planning and execution, the preparation and time consumed in the organisation of my thoughts and equipment. Once I've achieved what I set out to do, I sit back and review the journey and finally the destination - most of the time the 'journey' was so much more fun. It's the same when I book myself in for a treatment; a manicure, a pedicure, a facial or massage - it's the experience of the treatment that is so much more enjoyable than the walking away when the job is done.
I love to see my nails looking perfect with a french manicure or my toes sparkling against the summer sun with fresh polish, but I'm soon distracted by the whirlpool of everyday life again. Time seems to fly by before I realise it's time to book myself in for another fabulous treatment from The Ephraim Day Spa. It's just incredible how they make you feel, completely indulged in a full day spa experience.
It's my treat to myself and my way of stabilising the whirlpool; aside from feeling refreshed and relaxed it gives me time to think and plan ahead for life's little up's and down's. It's the perfect time to consider yourself and the ones you love, the time you get to chill out, relax and take stock - after all, those special moments are as much a part of your own personal journey as they are of your bigger experience.
