That First Day Spa Experience

27 November 2011

I recently had my brother's daughter up to stay with us from Tasmania. It was her first trip to the Gold Coast and at 16 years of age the sites, sounds and new experiences of the whole place was just as exciting for me as it was for her! You know that feeling you actually start to share when someone close to you has never seen something new and interesting before - they get excited, smile a lot and (in my esperience) even squeal a little bit! Well, my neice was no exception and that excitement was certainly contagious.

Over the course of the first two weeks we managed to do just about everything. Early morning walks along the beach, afternoons spent at the shops, all the adventure parks in the heat, you name it we did it. But then we started to run out of things to keep her occupied, relaxing by the pool at home or playing the XBox with her cousins was 'nice but not very exciting'!

So, in a moment of 40+ years wisdom, I decided to take her along to my favourite day spa. She was obviously a little cautious; I'm sure she was thinking this was something 'oldies' do as a way to make them look (or at least feel) young again! 'Day Spa - what will we do there?' she questioned.  So we ventured into The Ephraim Island Day Spa to spend the day being treated from head to toe; she loved every minute of it, I could hardly drag her home! Without sharing too many little girlie secrets from her first day spa experience and aside from the stripping off and spending the day in a robe, the Vichy Shower and exfoliation had to top it off - the sqeals and giggles coming from the room while she had her turn, were hilarious.

manicure and pedicureReturning to her family happily tanned and looking so glamorous, she's been converted into something of a 'day spa junkie' since that holiday, which my brother is oh so happy about (not!) It was a great holiday and a day at the day spa was a great way to top off the fabulous time together - I highly recommend you try it with someone special in your life - it's a fun way to just be together and it's a great way to build a relationship - I certianly learnt more about my niece in that one day and we now have that special day to remember together..
